Offro in dono per questo Capodanno 2007 una composizione poetica contenuta in un'antologia inglese di "materiale di culto inclusivo" (An Anthology of Inclusive Worship Material, Compiled by Geoffrey Duncan, Darton, Longman and Todd, London 2002, pp. 62-63). La poesia s'intitola Tante specie di amore meraviglioso (So Many Kinds of Awesome Love); ne sono venuta a conoscenza grazie al pastore battista Luca M. Negro, che qui ringrazio, come ringrazio P., l'amica che mi ha aiutato a districarmi nei meandri per me difficili della lingua inglese (naturalmente, le durezze della traduzione e gli eventuali errori sono del tutto imputabili a me).


TANTE SPECIE DI AMORE MERAVIGLIOSO

Ci sono tante specie di amore meraviglioso,
Io le benedico tutte:

Amore di parenti per i loro congiunti
Amore di amanti per i loro compagni
Amore del paese per il nativo
Amore del territorio per l'esploratore

Amore dell'operaio per il suo lavoro
Amore della studiosa per la sua verita'
Amore dell'artista per la musa
Amore del predicatore per la parola
Amore del discepolo per la via
Amore dei mistici per il loro Dio

Ci sono tante specie di amore meraviglioso,
di tutte noi abbiamo bisogno:

Amore delle persone amate, amore degli amici,
Amore dello straniero, amore del bisognoso

Amore della donna per l'uomo
Amore dell'uomo per la donna
Amore della donna per la sua donna
Amore dell'uomo per il suo uomo

Ci sono tante specie di amore meraviglioso,
Perche' dobbiamo metterne una al di sopra dell'altra,
Dire che alcune sono rispettabili e altre spregevoli?
Perche' dobbiamo scegliere un amore
Quando abbiamo bisogno di tutte le specie che possiamo avere?

Ci sono tante specie di amore meraviglioso:
L'amore che ti pianta in asso
e ti porta a cose disperate
L'amore che e' mite e gentile
e gonfia il cuore compassionevole
L'amore che e' gioioso e dona la vita
e ti fa cantare per giorni e giorni,
L'amore che e' saldo e fedele
e resiste a lunghe notti di dolore

Giovane amore, giocoso
Vecchio amore, sapiente
Ricco, prodigo amore
Povero, misero amore
Forte, stimolante amore
Vulnerabile amore, ferito
Appassionato, sensuale amore
Gratuito amore, amicale
Ardente amore, profetico
Di se' svuotato amore, contemplativo.
Ci sono tante specie di amore meraviglioso,
Io le benedico tutte.

There are so many kinds of awesome love,
I bless them all:

Love of the preacher for the word
Love of the disciple for the way
Love of the mystic for their God

There are so many kinds of awesome love,
We need them all:

Love of the beloved, love of the friend,
Love of the stranger, love of the needy

Love of the woman for the man
Love of the man for the woman
Love of woman for her woman
Love of the man for his man

There are so many kinds of awesome love,
Why must we set one above the other,
Say some are worthy and other base?
Why must we choose one love
When we need all the kinds we can get?

There are so many kinds of awesome love:
The love that knocks you off your feet
and sets you to desperate things
The love that is gentle and kind
and swells the compassionate heart
The love that is joyous and life-giving
and keeps you singing for days
The love that is steadfast and loyal
and sits out long nights of pain

Young, jocular love
Old, wise love
Rich, extravagant love
Poor, pitiful love
Strong, encouraging love
Vulnerable, wounded love
Passionate, sensual love
Free, philial love
Fiery, prophetic love
Self-emptied, contemplative love

There are so many kinds of awesome love,
I bless them all.
